Meds and Over the Counter Meds
This year, we are excited to welcome Registered Nurse Lora Ashmore to our Color Splash Out camp team!
To help us provide safe and appropriate medical care throughout camp, please review the following medication guidelines.
1. Checking In Medication
For the safety of all campers, all prescription and over-the-counter medications must be turned in to our camp nurse upon arrival. Medications should not be kept in a camper's luggage, House, or personal belongings. This policy also applies to our House Leaders and volunteers.
At Color Splash Out, we take the privacy of our campers seriously. Medical information will only be used during camp to ensure safe care and will not be retained beyond what is required for camp operations.
Before camp:
-
Download and complete the Medication Authorization Form (link below).
-
Place the completed form and all medications in a labeled zip-top plastic bag.
-
Bring the bag with you to camp check-in.
If you are unable to print the form, don't worry. Copies will be available at check-in with Nurse Lora Ashmore or with Yadi during the Rio Grande Valley departure.
2. Over-the-Counter Medications
If you would like our nurse to administer over-the-counter medication to your camper, please send it with them and include it on the Medication Authorization Form.
For your convenience, our camp medical station will also have a limited supply of common over-the-counter medications, including:
-
Tylenol
-
Advil
-
Motrin
-
Benadryl

Please note: Any medication your camper may need—including allergy medications, nasal sprays, eye drops (such as Visine or artificial tears), cough and cold medicine (including NyQuil), vitamins, supplements, or other over-the-counter products—must be listed on the Medication Authorization Form and checked in with our nurse.
This helps us ensure medications are administered safely and only with parent or guardian permission.
If you have any questions about medications or your camper's health needs, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for helping us create a safe
and healthy camp experience for everyone!

Camp Photos & Media Information
Private Camp Photo Group
We've created a private online group where parents and guardians can enjoy photos and updates throughout camp.
In addition to important announcements, this will be the only place where we share camp photos and videos. We do notpost campers' photos on our public social media pages or other Meta platforms.
Throughout camp, I'll be sharing photos, short videos, and updates so you can see all the fun, friendships, and adventures happening each day.
If you have not received an invitation by email, please let me know so I can add you. The group is private and cannot be found through a search—it is available by invitation only.
Photojournalists & Media Coverage
One of the ways we continue to protect and support LGBTQ+ young people is by helping tell the story of why safe and brave spaces like Color Splash Out matter.
When we work with members of the media, we do so thoughtfully and with the safety of our campers as our highest priority. For example, we do not publicly share the location of camp, and we ask reporters and photographers to provide their contact information should parents, guardians, or House Leaders have questions about their work.
This year, we are welcoming two members of the media to camp:
-
Salgu Wissmath (they/them), a Korean American nonbinary photojournalist with the San Antonio Express-News.
-
Nicky Yeager (they/she), a freelance writer.
They are working on a feature story about this year's Color Splash Out Summer Camp.
You can learn more about both guests on our website.

Your Choice Matters
Creating intentionally safe and brave spaces means giving young people and their families a choice.
If members of the media would like to interview or photograph your camper, we will only do so with your permission.
In previous years, some families have chosen to:
-
Participate fully.
-
Participate but request that only a first name or a pseudonym be used.
-
Decline interviews and photography altogethe
Every option is respected.
Please complete the Media Consent Form below to let us know your preference.

Please note: This media consent form is separate from the private camp photo group. The private group is only for parents, guardians, and approved family members to enjoy photos and updates during camp.
